iPhone 3GS comes to Telus November 5

I received a promotional email from Telus Mobility today indicating that they will start selling the iPhone 3GS on November 5, 2009. In the email they indicate that they will offer a range of plans to complement the device.

Although no price is mentioned in the email, they indicate that the discounted price to purchase the device is based on a three year contract with a voice and data plan of $50.00 or greater, and seems to be available to new clients only.

So you want the enter key to open messages in a new window in Thunderbird 3.0?

If you installed the latest Thunderbird beta you will notice pressing the enter key on a message will open it in a new tab instead of a new window. Here is how to fix this.

1. In Thunderbird click tools>Options>advanced tab.
2. Click the Config Editor butten.
3. Read the message about how this may void your warrenty and then Click the I’ll be careful button.
4. In the filter edit box type “mail.openMessageBehavior” and the list box will be filtered down to two items. “mail.openMessageBehavior”, and “mail.openMessageBehavior.version”.
5. We will modify “mail.openMessageBehavior” by right clicking on this item and choose Modify from the context menu.
6. Replace the #2 with #1 and press the OK butten.
7. Close the configuration editor.
8. Press the OK butten on the options screen.
9. Exit and restart Thunderbird to make sure the new setting takes effect.

You can now press the enter key on a message and the message will now be opened in a new window.

posting to a WordPress site: How I do it

As a blind person, this is the main process I go about posting to douglawlor.com using BlogJet as my main editor and using Word Press as my blogging platform. I would appreciate any constructive comments regarding how others go about performing this process.

Using BlogJet I will compose my post and do a spell check to clean up any mistakes.

  • Next I will Save it as a draft post by choosing “Post as draft” from the blog menu. This puts a draft post on the server.
  • Next log into your dashboard and use your screen reader’s heading navigation key, usually the letter h on your keyboard, to navigate to the heading entitled ”Recent Drafts”.
      • From here you can navigate to the post you want to work with by arrowing to the post with the up and down arrow keys and pressing enter on the post to open it.

      • Here you will be presented with the post editing screen. Use your screen reader’s heading navigation key to navigate to the heading entitled “Post Tags”. Press the down arrow key once and you should land in an edit box where you can type the tags you want your post to have separating them with commas. Ex: “Accessibility, Blogging, Posting, Word press”. Press the tab key and you will land on the “Add” button. Press the space bar on this and the tags you typed in the edit box above will be added to your post.

      • To add categories just navigate to the “Categories” heading using your screen reader’s heading key and use your arrow keys to explore this section of the edit window. The first thing you will see are two links entitled “All categories” and “Most Used. Clicking on the “All Categories” link will give you a list of all of the categories you have defined with check boxes next to them for selecting or de-selecting them. Use the space bar key to check or un-check these boxes. Clicking on the “Most Used” link will give you the same thing, except you will get a list of the most used categories as defined by Word Press. You can add a new category by navigating to the “+ Add New Category” heading and pressing the enter key to expand it. Navigate back to the “+ Add New Category” heading and press the down arrow key. Now you are placed in an edit box where you can type the name of a new category. Pressing the tab key will place you on a combo box or drop down list where you can select the parent that this category should be placed under. You can leave this at the default if you wish. Pressing the tab key again places you on the “Add” button. Pressing the space bar here will add the new category you typed in above. Now, if you wish, navigate back to the “+ Add New Category” heading and press the enter key again to collapse this box. When you have all of your categories added you can now navigate back to the “Categories” heading where you can see your new categories with check boxes next to them for selecting or de-selecting them.

Down arrowing passed the “+ Add New Category” box you will enter an edit box containing the title of your post. If you did not enter a title in BlogJet you can fill it in here. Navigate to the top of the editing page and press the publish button.

  • There you have it in a nutshell. Again, I would appreciate any constructive comments from others who have to work with Word Press as a blog platform or content management system.

Bell and Telus to Carry Apple's iPhone Next Month

It looks like both Bell Mobility and Telus Mobility will be carrying the iPhone in Canada, breaking an exclusive contract held by Rogers. This will be the first phone offered by both carriers that will contain a screen reader allowing a person who is blind to access a smart phone without paying the extra cost normally associated with making other phones accessible, through the use of ad on software, for visually impaired persons.

Both carriers have released statements stating that they will cell Apple’s iPhone. Telus’s English press release states that the carrier will start selling the device in November. Users can sign up to receive more information on THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT from Telus by pointing their browser at http://telusmobility.com/iphone.

Digidesign Demonstrates Upcoming ProTools Accessibility– The Mac-cessibility Network – News [Lioncourt.com].

I think this is extremely good news. Many people have been wanting access to ProTools for a long time and I think finally Digidesign is starting to make headway with this project. Although I do not work in the audio production field, I must pass along a big thanks to all the parties involved in bringing the accessibility of ProTools to fruition.

Search engine rankings

I was Just looking at the search engine ranking for this blog and although I have not done any kind of promotion, heck, I have not even bothered to change the default tag line, I’ll do that tomorrow, I am still seeing results in google search listings. I guess I will do some fixing up on this tomorrow.

It is good to find a blog client that allows me to get back into blogging again. Being able to do this on the fly like I am doing now is helpful to me. I can see this starting to free up my thought process. Having an easy way to write stuff down with an external client like BlogJet makes this process go much more smoothly.

Testing out a blogging client

I am just testing out this new client I have found called BlogJet. It is looking at least interesting so far. I have been looking for ages for some kind of an accessible tool I could run on this net book for maintaining blogs. I seem to be able to access the text in the edit box without much trouble.

I am in the process of trying out this thing called Ebooster. This application uses a memory device such as a flash drive or SD card connected to your computer to provide extra caching. I am not running any scientific bench marking tests here but it seems to make my old 1.8GHZ Dell laptop run faster. Microsoft word seems to load faster anyway. Does This thing really work? Time will tell.
