How to assign Shortcuts to any menu item in a Mac Application

To assign a keyboard shortcut to a menu item in an application do the following:

  1. Pull down the Apple menu and choose System Preferences.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. Click Keyboard Shortcuts.
  4. Click Add an Application Shortcut.
  5. Click the Popup Application button and choose the application you want to add a keyboard shortcut to.
  6. In the Menu Title box Enter the exact spelling of the program menu item. Please note that this is case sensitive, so if the menu item is capitalized you must capitalize the spelling here as well.
  7. Click in the Keyboard Shortcut box and hold down the keys you want to assign.
  8. Click Add.

There you have it. Hopefully your new keyboard shortcut should now work.
